Weather Balloon

Weather Balloon meetings are Wednesdays at 6:30pm in Furnas 1025.

Weather Balloon is an old project group of SEDS that was resurrected this year. Since we are starting from scratch, the group has spent this semester researching how weather balloons work, and what is necessary to build one on our own. Currently, we are collecting parts for our plan to build a functional balloon. Usually every other week, we invite members of NanoSat to come in and give us pointers and suggestions on constructing our balloon. Provided that our parts come in on time, we would like to do a test flight this semester, with plans to do a joint balloon project with NanoSat in the spring.

BattleBot

The BattleBot Competition is a traditional Engineering Week pastime, which caps off the week on Friday with a dramatic Botwars competition between all of the Engineering clubs.

BattleBot typically meets Friday afternoons at 4:30 in Furnas 1025. Contact project lead Zach Liquorman at zach.liquorman@ubseds.org  with questions.

Educational Outreach

The UB SEDS Educational Outreach group works to educate and inspire local youth to pursue academic excellence, typically by volunteering weekend mornings at the Buffalo Museum of Science. It is our goal to spark an interest in space exploration and development, and get young students as excited as we are about space!

Please contact project lead Rachel Malken at rachel.malken@ubseds.org with any questions.

Astronomy

The UB SEDS Astronomy group is focused on viewing, understanding, and sharing the beauty of the stars. The Astronomy group uses the club’s telescopes when weather permits, and also organizes other events including planetarium visits.

Astronomy events are announced on our social media pages, website, and at general meetings as they are planned.

Please contact Owen Langrehr at owen.langrehr@ubseds.org with questions about Astronomy.
