UB-Rocketry Certification Launch |
|
The above rockets were launched by UB-SEDS members Nicholas Sunderlin, Salman Iqbal and Sean Lyons (UB-Rocketry Project Group Leader) at Potter, NY for their Level 1 certifications with the Upstate Research Rocketry Group (URRG). The first rocket dubbed "1 Man Error" was launched on a Cesaroni I-236 17A, the second rocket; "The Stig" was launched on a Cesaroni H-125 and the third was launched on a Cesaroni I-236 17A as well. |

The above are images extracted from our Go-Pro HD Hero camera as it was placed in the payload. The last image was taken at approximately 90,000 ft where the blackness of space can be clearly seen at the edges.
A compliled video can be found on our Facebook page (UB-SEDS). |

UB-SEDS High Altitude Weather Balloon Payload |
|
On October 22nd, 2011, the University at Buffalo Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (UB-SEDS) chapter launched a high-altitude weather balloon into the Earth's upper atmosphere. It carried a payload containing a GoPro HD video camera, a flight computer to log data and heat batteries, and two tracking systems. Temperature, pressure, and acceleration data were recorded. A HAM radio transmitter and high-altitude GPS chip combination enabled tracking using Google APRS, in addition to a Motorola Droid phone that used an Android Marketplace GPS tracker app. It reached a maximum altitude of 95,000ft, and was recovered 91 miles downrange, south of Sodus, NY, from its launch location in Holland, NY. |

Upcoming UB-SEDS Summer Events |
|
UB-SEDS has several exciting events coming up!
On Friday, July 1st, we have been invited to Camp Keenan on the shores of Lake Ontario to conduct an astronomy program. We will be bringing our club telescope as well as several members' telescopes. Carpools are available, and several members are planning to stay the night. If you want to come up for just the night, that can be arranged too. There is no cost, but please RSVP to Salman Iqbal (Salman.Iqbal [AT] ubseds [DOT] org) if you'd like to attend. This event, of course, is weather permitting.
On Sunday, July 3rd, we will be launching small rockets around 12:00 pm near north campus. If you'd like to attend, please let me know (Andrew.Dianetti [AT] ubseds [DOT] org). This is also weather permitting.
Also, on Mondays and Thursdays throughout July, we will be at the club fairs at freshman orientation from 8 to 10 pm. Members are needed to work our table - if you are available, please email me! This is a great opporunity to promote UB-SEDS to new students and increase membership. Participating in one of these events will count toward full membership requirements in the fall (and yes, those who achieved full membership in the spring, tshirts are on their way).
For a list of summer events, check out our calendar page (at top). Events will be updated regularly. |
