Vote for Observatory Project through Pepsi Refresh! |
|
Hello everyone,
UB-SEDS has been working on a proposal to rebuild the dilapidated astronomy observatory on Skinnersville Rd, north of the Ellicott Complex.
In order to make this exciting project happen, we need everyone’s help! We have applied to the Pepsi Refresh Project for a $50,000 grant. We need everyone to vote to help us win!
The Pepsi Refresh Project is a program started by Pepsi to fund innovative ideas within communities. Pepsi took the money saved by not running Superbowl ads this year, and are awarding $1.3 million in grants every month. The top voted ideas will be funded.
In order to win, we need everyone’s help! Each person can vote up to once per day. Voting is easiest through text message: text 102329 to 73774 (free text, standard rates apply). You can also vote online at http://www.refresheverything.com/ubobservatory.
Please ask all of your friends and family to vote! Voting only takes a few seconds and will help us make this dream a reality!
Again, vote via text message by texting 102329 to 73774. Or vote online at http://www.refresheverything.com/ubobservatory.
More information on this exciting project can be found at http://www.ubseds.org/observatory. |

On Thursday, October 7, UB-SEDS held an astronomy observing event in the Special Events Field across from the Student Union. We set up our Celestron C10-NGT telescope, and were joined by members' telescopes and a 12" Dobsonian brought by a member of the Buffalo Astronomical Assosciation. We were able to observe Jupiter, including Io entering occulation, and the Great Red Spot. We also were able to view other objects such as the Andromeda Galaxy.
Below are a few pictures of the event, including afocal images of Jupiter.
